Digital Media

Digital media examples

I have experience with pre- and post-production for digital media. I script, edit, and produce for podcasts and videos.

Explanation of work done

On podcasts, I work with hosts on the front end to nail down the shows’ direction and themes. This means that I help them come up with segments, style of music, cover art, and more. When they start recording, I provide content edits – removing vocal flubs, cutting divergent tangents, rearranging bits for narrative cohesion – as well as technical edits – cleaning up the raw files, mastering the mix, adding in creative flourishes. Then I schedule the show for release, provide metadata, and add in space for any advertisement. All podcasts done with Area Code, in partnership with my employer Useful Group.

For video productions, I write scripts and provide detailed shot lists for shoots. When asked to be on set, I will provide creative direction for photo/video content creation that achieves desired creative goals.

We Wonder

I produced We Wonder for two seasons. This contemplative podcast was geared toward children and families. Over the Advent and Lent seasons, I worked with the host and others on the production team to maintain the meditative, calming tone. This included mastering the volume to the appropriate levels, choosing appropriate music, and editing the content for narrative structure. You can listen to this episode from our Advent season:

Sweet Tea

Sweet Tea with Jasmine and Portia had a simple tonal goal: to sound like friends talking on the front porch over some sweet tea. I assisted Jasmine and Portia with the entire feel of their show by choosing intro and transition music, helping with themes, and editing. The conversations in their show often covered difficult situations, inviting listeners to experience and learn alongside the hosts. I’ve provided one of their more popular episodes below:

Comedy Has An Ouchie

This podcast challenged what the comedy scene has become – “a place to creatively and openly express who you are…with a LOT of strings attached and gatekeepers making rules by which we’ve arbitrarily abided.” This progressive show delved into deep, often hard, conversations about race, sex, gender, mental health, and more. Check out this episode, with a content warning for discussions about race:

Care and Counseling: Student Wellness Program

I wrote a script for a video to be shown at a fundraising event. Care and Counseling’s Student Wellness Program puts counselors in schools to offer mental health services for all students – free of charge. For this video, I wrote an emotional script that shows the viewer the hopelessness that many teens experience, and then provides a triumphant turn with a solution. SplyceHouse shot and edited this video. Watch the video below:
